CZT Family Tree: Sarah Vedeler

We always say that the Zentangle Method attracts really awesome people. We have had the pleasure of working with wonderful Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZT) all over the world and we are excited to share these wonderful people with the entire Zentangle Community. Through our series, CZT Family Tree, we will introduce individual CZTs.

Today, we are excited to introduce Sarah Vedeler!

Name: Sarah Vedeler

CZT#: 42

Hometown: Oro Valley, AZ

Favorite tangle: W2 and Huggins

Favorite place to tangle: When it’s cold… sitting on my sofa with my feet up, listening to inspirational music. When it’s warm… sitting on my patio with the mountains in the background and hummingbirds zooming around the yard. I have a favorite rock near to my Dad’s house in Vaxholm, Sweden, that will make a fabulous place for tangling next time I go to visit!

How I use the Zentangle Method in my life: Discovering Zentangle saved my sanity and reignited my creative spark, which had been lying dormant for way too long. Becoming a CZT gave me a new lease on life and sent me in a new - and exciting - direction in my business. I tangle when I am on Zoom calls when I need to listen to and absorb information. It somehow gets my brain out of the way so that I can be much more receptive to new information and ideas. I tangle in the evening. It relaxes both my mind and my body and I sleep so much better as a result! I think I even tangle in my sleep! There have been a few occasions when I’ve woken up in the morning with ideas for new tangles and strings and tiles!!!

My favorite story or memory about teaching the Zentangle Method is: The very first Zentangle class I taught was on Zoom, teaching the introductory tile but featuring an M string rather than a Z string. M for Meaning of Life Designs! I had practiced “on camera” the day before and my hand had been shaking like a leaf. When I got on Zoom and started to teach, it felt as if I had been doing it forever and it was a completely natural thing to be doing. With no hand shaking!!! Through my experiences as a CZT, I have learned: Zentangle is not for everyone (yet!) but those people who are for it embrace it whole heartedly. The results absolutely do NOT have to be perfect. A line drawn with a shaking hand has a ton of character! My life is better with a Zentangle practice in it.

If I’m not tangling, you will find me…: Actually, a good amount of my time is currently spent developing new classes for my new Zentangle membership program! You might occasionally find me enjoying the sunshine in my back yard, gazing up at the mountains, or reading a book. On a daily basis, you’ll find me walking through my neighborhood, also enjoying the sunshine, and more than likely listening to a podcast. One of these days I’m going to start ballroom dancing… again. I loved to do it before I got married and had kids. Now that I’m a single empty nester it’s time to start again!

  • Hi Arlene! Some of my tiles are influenced by my surroundings. I think it’s more a case of being influenced by the peace that sinks into my soul when I’m either sitting in my back yard or walking in the neighborhood looking up at the mountains 💖

  • Sarah, I enjoyed reading all about you, and thank you for sharing your Zentangle journey and your two beautiful tiles with us! I also wonder if your finished tiles are influenced by Mother Nature all around you?
