CZT Family Tree
We always say that the Zentangle Method attracts really awesome people. We have had the pleasure of working with wonderful Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZT) all over the world and we are excited to share these wonderful people with the entire Zentangle Community. Through our series, CZT Family Tree, we will introduce individual CZTs.
Today, we are excited to introduce Midori Okasako!
Name: Midori Okasako CZT#: 21
Hometown: current home, a forest in Florida (I am a transplant from 13-14th century capital of Japan)
Favorite tangle: Mooka…and many more
Favorite place to tangle: 2 places… 1). At a green table, looking out into the forest/pond. (my late mother created her art at this green table.) 2). Wherever I have an opportunity to tangle with Zentangle® enthusiasts or with newbies.
How I use the Zentangle Method in my life: “…one stroke at a time” has become a gentle perpetual reminder for me…to ‘slow down’…to focus on a task singly…to allow my attention to rest in the moment with no outguessing nor expectations.
My favorite story or memory about teaching the Zentangle Method is: Every occasion to practice/share the benefits of Zentangle is special. One wondrous moment…on a spring day veiled with cherry blossoms, Zentangle led me back to my alma mater* to introduce this fun, global art form to parents and faculty. My gratitude goes to respective personnel for their patience/generosity, for successfully coordinating a memorable gathering. (*I spent 12 notable years of international schooling in japan.)
Through my experiences as a CZT, I have learned: Enjoying Zentangle as a group has made me keenly aware/appreciative that we, as ‘BREATHING’ individuals, are all connected. I am constantly humbled/inspired by unique, expressive variations created with graceful elemental strokes using simple, familiar tools. When individual tile expressions are manifested collectively into a dramatic mosaic, I often sense a resonating pulse/aura of genuine unity…and a sigh of ‘ahh.’
If I’m not tangling, you will find me…: …taking walks in our forest with baby grandma Maco (my canine companion) and capturing fleeting moments ‘i see’ with my iphone.

Midori is as gifted and generous a Zentangle teacher as she is talented and inspiring artist. When you enter her class, one truly enters a special space where all is possible. Glad to be a dweller in the same area of the Forest!

Midori’s talents to express her thoughts and feeling is as amazing as her finished tiles. I enjoy Midori’s composition and gentle lines. Hope to tangle together soon.
