Tangle for Health

Tangle for Health

Earlier this year, the CZTs at the Chinese Zentangle Association put together an online learning experience called “Tangle for Health” to help promote creativity during a time when people needed it most. This series reached tanglers all over the world. We have asked those CZTs to share a little more about Tangle for Health and their experience teaching.

Enjoy!

CZA writes…

We have been experiencing a new situation since late 2019. The world is under a fluctuating circumstance, many people were asked to stay at home for quarantine, some people might feel stressful and panic.

We have been thinking about doing something for everyone and we found that practicing the Zentangle Method would be a good way to set aside your concerns and fears.

Therefore, we came up with an idea to tangle together. Let’s tangle for health.

This project started from March 24 and ended up dated May 21.

It is anticipated that an online film series of “Tangle for Health” were launched weekly from March 24 onwards.

Through the “Tangle for Health” online tutorial films, we invited all participants to create Zentangle arts with all materials they have.

We released a series of 16 tutor videos and invited everyone to join us.

We have participants from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore.

Furthermore, we also have people from Argentina and South Africa.

It is really such a wonderful thing to have Zentangle link us together, in other words, we are all parts of this worldwide Zentangle community.

What the CZTs had to say…

Shaochi / CZT: Due to the public stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, people choose to stay at home and draw tangles with family members, avoid public contact and reduce the risk of infection.

Drawing with the online video makes people focus on their strokes at the moment, relieve their body and mind, ease their stress. Let’s tangle together!

Karen / CZT: Tangle for Health event aims to relieve all kinds of psychological tension and pressure by drawing tangles.

We may face different opportunities and challenges in our future life, but I believe that the continuously practice of Zentangle can bring us inner peace and make ourselves feel relaxed, so that we can have a determined attitude to handle these uncertainties in a better way.

Elaine / CZT: It is encouraging to hold an online Zentangle event at this special moment, which brings us a power to correlate/connect to each other.

I was particularly touched by the mosaic of all other members’ artwork.

We can share the fun and surprise of Zentangle with our friends via the Internet, and see how others take care of themselves with Zentangle Method.

Lynn / CZT: It is my happiest time in the first half of this year following the video of Tangle for Health Event and tangling with Zentangle fans and CZTs without the limitation of time and space.

Zentanlge calms us down from the hectic life, bring us the inner peace, free us from the worries, makes us brave and determined to face various changes.

What the students had to say…

Xi Zi / CZT: It is a gather together that I have been longing for. It was a pleasure afternoon tangling with several friends peacefully. We also enjoyed refreshments and tea together when getting tired. How time flies! Bid my friends and get back home. I couldn't help but take out my Zentangle tiles again after dinner, drew for a while, and had a sound sleep. I’m already looking forward to the next meeting to go on Zentangle.

Yu Xiaoyue / tangler: It's hard to get a peaceful moment and a relaxation in daily hectic life, which I can easily find in the Zentangle practice.

I can also make new friends with common interests and get many unexpected surprises!

Neil / CZT: It's great to have such a relaxing and wonderful salon in this hard time. It is an enjoyable and warm afternoon to tangle with friends, share snacks and stories with each other.

I sincerely hope that CZA can hold more activities like this, let people know about Zentangle, meet new friends, share and spread the tranquility and beauty of Zentangle.

  • I’m very happy!!! Because many time ago, I was waiting for this opportunity. I can’t believe! Finally, I will be a CZT. Is my gift for the rest of my life. I had drawing or doodling alone, and now I’m in the best healthy community of the world. Very grateful

Gracias….

  • It was my good fortune to tangle along with the Tangle for Health series – although I only speak English the videos allowed me to tangle with fine results. Zentangle really is a universal language

  • I agree that tangling in all its myriad forms has helped keep me sane during these highly troubling and potentially stressful times in our world’s history. I even get up in the middle of the night if I’m not able to sleep and draw lines on paper. Some have turned out to be quite beautiful! Thanks to Rick and Maria and family for continuing to expand and renew my practice.
