International Day of Zentangle

Since my first lesson with Willi Tetelbaum in 2017 I was totally enthralled with Zentangle. She taught about 10 of us in her beautiful yoga room. It was intimate. It was private. I loved it. Little did I know the thrill I would have 7 years later and CZT trained that I would be tangling with 3000 people from all over the world and it would STILL feel intimate. I only know a few of the CZTs – Hilde, Veronica, Anica – but feel like you are all my friends. Thank you Maria (so glad to see you actively tangling again), Rick, Molly and Martha for creating and generously sharing Zentangle with the world.

It is always a joy to watch Rick and Maria together! Many thanks for all that you share with the Zentangle community around the world! 🥰❤️

I had so much fun with IDOZ ! It has so many possibilities ❤️ I love those kind of tangles! I drew it on a renaissance tile and loved shading it! Then I went to Instagram and the app and posted and also admired everyone’s work! We are all so blessed to have Zentangle in our lives!

I know there will be a thousand and one comments on this blog post. I smile thinking who would EVER have the time to read them all. And to know that 3000 were on together from all over the world was splendid. I am guessing at least another thousand will share it today or soon because they couldn’t be there at that exact moment. Rick and Maria must be astounded at times at the size of the Zentangle community and what they have started! And many of us as teachers have taught hundreds of others who may not be connected to the blog. It’s incredible. And yes…we all were so happy about Maria’s good recovery.

Thank you and to everyone at Zentangle! Little did you know, 20 years ago, that you would be designing a life-changing art form. It has changed my life and that of many others with just a small piece of paper. So glad your drawing hand has healed, Maria. Thanks for everything!!!

I was so happy to be able to join in your celebration. I loved every minute. As I tangled along with Rick and Maria I found myself really relaxing. My tiles don’t look perfect but they are not bad. Your samples at the end were so beautiful thank you so much for sharing.

Hi everyone, what a joy to be together yesterday with so many Zentangle friends. The new tangle is just amazing, rich and open to lots of imagination. I loved the two different styles yesterday and was then blown away by the many variations that you shared. Maria, I’m so happy to know that your hand is so much better. Blessings to you all, and here’s to the next 20!

I was hoping to join live, but just as it started (9:00 am my time), my husband came in and said we needed to run some errands before it got any hotter (it was already 83 degrees, and we really did need to do those errands). So instead I watched the replay in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was happy to participate, even if it wasn’t live.

I had so much fun drawing IDOZ. Although I am not a CZT, I have been tangling for 10 years. I now volunteer and show people that you don’t need artistic ability to draw something beautiful. Thank you for all you do. Happy Anniversary and looking forward to the next Project pack in August.

A wonderful way to observe the anniversary of this incredible community — a new tangle that has so many possibilities with Maria and Rick, watching the lightning chat with people around the globe, all brought together by the magic of Zentangle. I can’t imagine my life without it, and am filled with gratitude for all of you!

So glad to see Maria drawing again. I was especially touched by the obvious love Rick and Maria have for one another, and how that infuses into the Zentangle Method. The joy and passion come from their hearts.

I love feeling like I am part of a greater community of like-minded people… I feel so incredibly grateful. When I feel down, lonely or overwhelmed by my circumstances I know exactly where to turn to – Zentangle …sit and just immerse myself in my tile. Thank you so much for the passion you guys have for sharing – it means the world to me, and it gives me renewed strength to not just carry on, but give my best and make a difference.

It was such a wonderful hour to see you making jokes and ddrawing. It felt like being together in the same room. So happy your hand is better Maria. What an amazing new tangle too.

It was a joy to celebrate IDOZ and to learn a wonderful new tangle at the same time. What a fantastic experience to tangle with other Zentangle artists around the globe sharing the experience. WOW!! Thank you to the Zentangle HQ team for all that you each do for our truly amazing community.

I had been in a total slump, not having done any tangling or art since February. I was not going to miss celebrating 20 years of Zentangle, so thank you for helping me break my slump! It’s a fun new tangle! Happy Anniversary to you all!

I did miss the online meeting but I watched the video. I just have had operation on my shoulder and been unable to use my right hand for some time. Unable to drive for 4 more weeks so stuck at home. Yesterday I could draw again, what a happy day 🥰 I did make 4 tiles, loved the drop design. Going to make some more now. Thank you so much 🙏🏼

I’ve been involved for over 10 years now and it just made my heart swell to think of all the tanglers all over the world doing the same thing with nothing but love and joy in their hearts and on their minds. Zentangle is such a wonderful way to share our common humanity.

Congratulations Rick, Maria, and Zentangle Team! It was such a fun meeting, being with tanglers from around the world. Two of my dearest friends joined in, one from California and one from England. All six of our tiles were completely different, even though we were following along. One of the many things I so love about zentangle… together, yet individual expression. What a gift this practice is, radiating out into the world! Thank you!

I put a Z for my intention.
It was really fun to make two times and to tangle something that seemed completely different on each tile, but was the same basic structure.

I’m actually thinking that it might be something I teach in two separate classes. One class teaches everybody how to draw the tangle. And the second class could be an exploration where each person in the class adds their own extensions, enhancements, or embellishments.

I invited a few friends over and we watched and tangled together. We had a wonderful time, and then we put our tiles together and made a mosaic.
