International Day of Zentangle

International Day of Zentangle

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the inaugural International Day of Zentangle. When we were planning how to celebrate this day, we thought it would be so much fun to invite tanglers from around the world to tangle together. Over 3,000 tanglers joined us from near and far, at all hours of the day and night as Rick and Maria taught a new tangle to celebrate the occasion.

We are thrilled to introduce and share with you the tangle idoz (International Day of Zentangle)!

If you missed our live stream, you can watch the replay here:

We are humbled and warmed by all of you who joined us to tangle together. We are grateful for all of you who have been part of this Zentangle adventure during the past twenty years. It is exciting to now mark July 15th as the International Day of Zentangle. Until next year . . . when we all stop at teatime to tangle together again.

Let us know in the comments how you celebrated the International Day of Zentangle and what it means to you. We will choose a few commenters at random to send a gift to.

P.S. A special Thank You to all of those who donated to the Zentangle Foundation. You can learn more about the Zentangle Foundation at zentanglefoundation.org.

P.P.S. Be sure to upload your tiles to the Zentangle Mosaic App with the hashtags #idoz and #idoz2024

  • Got ready at 10 am European Time, then noticed I was wrong… cool: time to finish my holiday preparations…then got into a conflict with my (teenage) son…started to tangle in a wild mood…found my peace back while tangling and also a pleasant anticipation of our holidays by colouring this beautiful new tangle. That’s the gentle power of Zentangle for me: focus, get back to myself, draw small and think big again, find serenity. THANK YOU

  • Great idea to celebrate 20 years with all of you. Zentangle is one good thing I got out of the Pandemic. I look forward to many years of Tangling and hopefully another anniversary!

  • LOVED participating in the live session, awed that I was sharing the experience with 3 thousand others. That was some incredible energy—all those Microns and pencils and tortillions simultaneously vibrating with creativity and community! I rode that high for the rest of the day. May we do that more frequently than once a year?!? Thank you so much for facilitating such a special event.

  • Congratulations and thank you so much! It was lots of fun to be on the live stream with everyone and the chat was WILD!! I loved it! I was on earlier, but the session officially started at midnight Melbourne time and finished after 1am! Very glad I found Zentangle and this wonderful community in 2014 – so a 10 year anniversary for me!

  • Your Teatime is my Midnight, in my part of the world. I had been hanging out excitedly waiting for your live stream for days. I had 3 of my grandchildren staying with me and they decided they wanted to stay up and tangle with me .They are 11,10 and 9. We had such a special time and they were so excited to actually see Maria, Rick and then Molly and Martha.I have been tangling for over 10 years now. Through a lot of really tough times and a lot of really joyous ones too. It is SUCH a special and wonderous thing this Zentangle. and now I have 3 young tanglers to share it with. They are hooked too. Thank you. Although my stash of tangling supplies has all but “distapeered” now hehe. We cannot wait until the next .

  • I hurried to finish my office work so that I could be there live. The session started at 4 pm in my time zone. It was a great start to the evening. You feel connected to so many people.
And IDOZ is a really versatile Tangle. I also admire Maria’s range of variations. I look forward to exploring this Tangle further.
    Here’s to the next 20 years. 😊

  • Thank you so much for sharing your tangles, gratitude and talent. A thought crossed my mind watching Maria. Have you ever considered inventing a tangle with your non dominant hand? That would be a challenge for all of us, but somehow you would make it meaningful and fun! It could be the non-dom tangle.

  • I drove home Monday morning at 9:30 after my workout, raced to my desk, and opened my laptop by 9:55. Loved seeing all the greetings from around the world as the clocked ticked toward 10am. Then for the next hour, I joined a world-wide community, putting pen to paper, with gratitude, following Rick and Maria’s creative magic.

  • Hearty congratulations for the 20th anniversary! I explored IDOZ with you on YouTube several hours after your initial stream and enjoyed your commentary and voices so much. Your loving, gracious spirits shine through. Bless you. IDOZ reminds me of garlic cloves, four of them…a “Garliquad”!

  • Thank you for sharing tea time and another wonderful time tangling with others! My cat, Jules, sat on my shoulder as she often does when I tangle enjoying it all as well. Good to see Maria’s progress and tangling again with ease…and Rick ear to ear grinning, speechlessness…wonderful! Love you all!

  • Thank you to all at ZTHQ for this opportunity to share TeaTime with you and so many others! I felt connected! The new tangle is incredible and I am looking forward to use it.
It was good to see Maria tangling again and that her hand is recovering. And good to hear the calmness of Rick’s voice.
    Warm greetings!

  • What a wonderful celebration! Although I was sitting here at home, I felt like I was in a group of my best friends (and I know no one else that tangles!). A huge and hearty thank you to Rick, Maria and the entire HQ team for hosting this party. I hope it is the first of many.

  • Hi all,
You have a special talent for the creativity, the imagination, the joy of bringing us all together in such a grand way. I really love IDOZ and your examples were top notch. Such fun to be in your world. I am a CZT16 and live in Rhode Island. I am happy to be in close proximity to the goings on with Zentangle. I probably will check out the next Newport gathering. A hearty yippee for that and for seeing you and your family. Fondly, Charlann Walker
