Thank you to everyone who joined us for the inaugural International Day of Zentangle. When we were planning how to celebrate this day, we thought it would be so much fun to invite tanglers from around the world to tangle together. Over 3,000 tanglers joined us from near and far, at all hours of the day and night as Rick and Maria taught a new tangle to celebrate the occasion.
We are thrilled to introduce and share with you the tangle idoz (International Day of Zentangle)!
If you missed our live stream, you can watch the replay here:
We are humbled and warmed by all of you who joined us to tangle together. We are grateful for all of you who have been part of this Zentangle adventure during the past twenty years. It is exciting to now mark July 15th as the International Day of Zentangle. Until next year . . . when we all stop at teatime to tangle together again.
Let us know in the comments how you celebrated the International Day of Zentangle and what it means to you. We will choose a few commenters at random to send a gift to.
P.S. A special Thank You to all of those who donated to the Zentangle Foundation. You can learn more about the Zentangle Foundation at zentanglefoundation.org.
P.P.S. Be sure to upload your tiles to the Zentangle Mosaic App with the hashtags #idoz and #idoz2024
I am now adding “idoz”, and it’s tangleations to my list of favorites; plus, on my list I should have also added “Well”, “Betweed”, and “Vertigogh”. I like to start out with my go-to tangles; the basic ones then dive into advanced ones; adding tangleations, embellishments, and color.
I hope all of you are enjoying your tangling journey as much as I have; for all these wonderful years! Thankyou to all of you, for these gorgeous tangles! Sincerely, Cheryl.

It was amazing to join you live, along with 3000 amazing Zentangle lovers from around the world, to tangle Idoz. What an historic and inspiring way to celebrate 20 years! I can only imagine how inspiring it will be to meet you at CZT 42 in November. Love to you and the entire Zentangle team on this awesome accomplishment. Perhaps you’ve already noticed that the new pattern, Idoz (International Day of Zentangle), can also stand for “I DO Zentangle!”

It was so nice to be able to join in a live stream with the two of you again. I had the pleasure of being in the very first online certification CZT36 during COVID-19 November 2020 What wonderful celebration for 20 years of Tangeling and spreading joy. I haven’t tangled in quite a while but this opportunity reawakened the meditation aspect of Zentangle which I have been missing. Taught my first class in quite awhile & my student,11, is & super excited. :) I shared the YouTube video with her. Thank you for sharing!!!

Here in Tasmania I planned to join in around midnight with great anticipation.
This was shattered after having to attend three days of cancer related specialist appointments which left me exhausted.
How totally THRILLED I was to be able to see you all on the recording. All my fears of the last few days were forgotten completely as I picked up my pen and became excited about the new commemorative tangle #idoz which you shared. “Thank you” is just not enough.

Tangler@ are your strokes the road and nothing more
Tangler@ there is no mistake, just opportunity to create
To tangler you make Art
and when I look back
you can see the traveling tile is that you sent further
Tangler@ there is no objective but process and peace of mind…
Some time ago on Instagram
where today the feeds are dressed in tiles
The voice of a Tangler@ was heard shouting: Zentangle is the way!!!! art is made by tangle… Blow by blow, verse by verse, stroke by stroke… (inspired by Machado’s poem and Serrat’s song…emerged after certification in November 2021)
<I don’t know if the Google translation includes what the poem expresses and my version with Zentangle in Spanish>
🎶🎶🎶Himno a zentangleinc celebrando #diainternacionaldezentangle .🎵🎶 Tangler son tus trazos
el camino y nada más
Tangler@ no hay error ,
solo oportunidad de crear
Al tanglear se hace Arte
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la tesela viajera
que mandaste más allá
Tangler@ no hay objetivo
sino proceso y paz mental …
Hace algún tiempo en Instagram
donde hoy los feeds se visten de teselas
se oyó la voz de un Tangler@ gritar :
Zentangle es el camino !!!!
se hace arte al tanglear…
Golpe a golpe, verso a verso, trazo a trazo…
(inspirado en poema de Machado y canción de Serrat…surgido tras la certificación en noviembre 2021)

IDOZ 2024 was the first online event I have attended related to Zentangle. I took what I learned and sat down with our 8 year old granddaughter to teach her how to do a similar project. We exchanged our artwork in the end, so we each have some precious items!
When asking her what she would like to use as her intention, she put initials for her two cousins. Love it!

For those of us seeking a sense of belonging, this “tangle at tea time” was an absolute gift to the soul. I feel so fortunate to be a part of the Zentangle community AND being able to join this joyful space you, so delicately, organized for all of us. I wish I could hug you all in person! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
