CZT Family Tree - John Carey

CZT Family Tree - John Carey

We always say that the Zentangle Method attracts really awesome people. We have had the pleasure of working with wonderful Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZT) all over the world and we are excited to share these wonderful people with the entire Zentangle Community. Through our series, CZT Family Tree, we will introduce individual CZTs.

Today, we are excited to introduce John Carey

-----+-----

Name: John Carey                                                                 CZT: 15

Hometown: Midwest City, Oklahoma

Favorite Tangle: Shattuck

Favorite place to tangle: A cruise Ship

How I use the Zentangle Method in my life:  I use Zentangle as meditation and I use it as the introductory lesson in my high school Art 1 class.

My favorite story or memory about teaching the Zentangle Method is:  I love that moment when you line students work up into the mosaic and they can't pick out their own.  They feel accomplished and the buy into the fact that everyone is an artist.

Through my experiences as a CZT, I have learned: You don't have to be perfect.

If I am not tangling, you will find me: Teaching high school art or traveling with my wife and kids.

  • Thanks for sharing your story and your art. It’s so cool that you are incorporating it into your classes too with these students. It’s Zen-Tastic!

  • Wonderful work! Thank you so much for sharing – especially with youth!! I agree with the cruise ship as the best place to tangle. We just arrive home from a cruise to Alaska. During the journey, I was able to complete an Opus tile and my entire little book from Project Pack 6. How about a Zentangle Cruise!!

  • Hi John! I really like your comment about seeing how the students cannot pick out their tiles from the mosaic – that makes a great point about the effect of the mosaic – well done!

  • Meditation, not being perfect and everyone an artist. I agree this act is for me a pleasurable way to learn and spend my time. Darla Rae Duffy
