Zentangle Project Pack No. 22 - The 12 Days of Zentangle 2023 - Day 01

The following text was translated by Rick from the tap tap tapping "voice" of Bijou.

Bijou writes:

As you all may have heard, Zentangle Project Pack No. 22 was my idea. Perhaps that is obvious. (For those of you who may not know, I am a snail. :-)

It all came to me in a dream. It is not surprising that I dream of spirals, but this particular dream was spectacular! I awoke with my mind going this way and that, and around and around in a beautiful spiral. It made me think that my friends at Zentangle would love the idea of doing a project pack all about spirals. I pitched the idea and they of course loved it.

We went right to work researching and exploring all the ways we could honor the beautiful, magical spiral. It somehow felt like home. I was honored to be working along with them and adding to the creative magic. We are so excited to share with you what we came up with. I encourage you to watch the introductory video they have put together that goes into detail about this fabulous theme.

I have asked my friends Alphie, Nomi, Harold, Marasu, and our new friend, Zander, to help me share the lessons with you each day.

Alphie, Nomi, Harold, and Marasu carefully unwrapped all the materials in the Project Pack No. 22 envelope.

Nomi shrieked with excitement, "So many things to admire. New pens, new pencils, and tiles ... oh my!"

They find the tile that will be used on this first day of the twelve days of Zentangle and put the tile on display to take a moment for gratitude and appreciation.

"How absolutely inspiraling!" exclaimed Marasu.

"I am so eager to see how Rick will be using this tile in the first video," pondered Alphie.

"I am feeling very grateful. Shall we sit back and watch as Rick and Maria deliver this first lesson in this very exciting series?" suggests Harold.

"Yes, please!" they all shouted out.

And so...without further ado, we present to you, The 2023 Twelve Days of Zentangle.

--- + ---

Welcome to Zentangle Project Pack No. 22 and the first day of the 2023 Twelve Days of Zentangle!

As so many of you tangle enthusiasts know ... The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns that we call tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves, and orbs. There are a few tangles in the history of the Zentangle Method that are known more and used more often and manipulated more than others. Their forms are basic, resilient, familiar and they have the potential to be so much more in so many ways.

This project pack will take a deep dive into one tangle and all that it stands for. As usual, we are taking a very creative, outside the box approach to this fun theme.

Today, we share with you two videos.

First, join Rick, Maria and Molly as they introduce you to the theme and materials of this exciting project pack.

Then, tangle along with Rick as he and Maria guide you through the first video in this series.

  • I am off from work this week so I bought the project pack absolutely love Love the new sizes. I have learned so much. Tried shading from a zentangle book and it never worked. Having the right tools and video instruction is amazing. So all the pieces come together at the end for one large pictureb

I so appreciate Molly and Rick and Maria’s reminders, to go at my own pace, but must say that I can’t wait to get home and open my project pack and get crackin’. • What I love about Zentangle is that it is so much more than putting pen to paper! It is exploration! I love the connection to ancient Egyptian art, to native American cultures in which spirals may represent life’s journey, and to all the naturally occurring spirals! So pleased to begin this journey!! Thank you!

  • Stress aside! Creating things with your hands could be considered a therapeutic activity. Ceramics, illustration, screen printing or even photographic development, there is nothing like putting your phone in a drawer and being able to dedicate the time it deserves to each thing.
