One word that comes up often in the Zentangle community is, “inspire." We thrive on the inspiration we get from each other and the world around us. What is so awesome about inspiration, is that it fuels our artistic souls. The Zentangle community and the world around us, that we now see so differently, offers an endless source of inspiration.
On this fifth day of the Twelve Days of Zentangle, Alfie and friends were delightfully surprised and inspired by Maria’s unexpected and unusual idea for adding dimension to her tile. Using a little water and a spoon, she shows us how to create a raised surface on a tile. Curious? Follow along and see for yourself.

Welcome to the Zentangle Project Pack No. 16 and the fifth day of the 12 Days of Zentangle!
This Zentangle series offers us a moment to pause and reflect on the past year. 2021, like all years, has proven to be a time of growth. As each one of us continued with our journeys we persevered with strength, courage, resilience, and trust. In a year of rebuilding, we were given the opportunity to choose what we wanted to keep with us and what we wanted to leave behind. As the year unfolded, we hope you were able to lean on your Zentangle practice and focus on the beautiful things that came through. Together, in this series, we will in-crease our skills while navigating this part of our journey one stroke at a time. In this year-end series, we will be looking closely between the layers and folds of our Zentangle practice. As we score some new tools for our tangling toolbox, we will dig into some creative, tangled ways to celebrate and illuminate your Zentangle art.
We will be working with the materials in the Zentangle Project Pack No. 16, but we encourage you to follow along with whatever materials that you have.
Day 5
Let Alfie know your thoughts and each day we will pick a commenter at random to receive a Zentangle Surprise!
The winner from Day 04 is Yvonne Li! Please send your snail mail address to julie@zentangle.com.
Thank you so much! I’m really curious to see what’s coming my way… :-)
Loved this day and the idea. Normally, I try to avoid those bumps best I can when using watercolours, but this does give an Interesting 3D effect! I’ll incorporate that into my repertoire. :-)

I need Rick to write me a note to get out of work so I can keep up with the daily videos!

This technique is really great. I always like the idea that I do not need a lot of material (expensive colors f.e.) and can use things I have at home usually. Thanks for that!

Love the puffy center. Want to combine a “puffy center” with some embossing around the edges. Enjoying the new techniques in this Project Pack and not even half way through the 12 days. Can’t wait to see what Day 6 will offer!

This one blew me away! I love the three dimensions not only from working the paper but with the design and shading! My favorite so far, cannot wait for day 6.

I always watch in awe when Maria tangles. And for just a second the thought that I could never do this will cross my mind. And just a second later I remind myself that I can do this too! In my own style, my own pace and one stroke at a time! I am grateful for all the tools we are given to accomplish such beauty!

Love this new 3D technique. Another way to make a tangle pop out. This will look lovely on a card.

I loved watching this video, it is so dimensional, but here it is already bedtime, so I will give it a try tomorrow

It really does look like the surface is raised and three dimensional. Thanks for showing all the details on how to create it.
