The third pillar of the Zentangle Foundation is Scholarship. Each year, through the generous donations of the Zentangle Community (and beyond!), the Zentangle Foundation provides a scholarship for a CZT Training (US).
Last week in Newport, Rhode Island, the 2024 Scholarship Recipient, Shauna Murray, joined is for CZT 42.
We were thrilled to learn a little bit about her and how she plans to use the Zentangle Method in her community. Today, we invite you to get to know Shauna Murray in our CZT Family Tree series.
Name: Shauna Murray, CZT 42
Hometown: Yukon, Oklahoma, USA
Favorite tangle: Crazy ‘Nzeppel
Favorite place to tangle: Cozied up on the couch with a lap desk. How I use the Zentangle Method in my life: If it wasn’t for Zentangle, I would not have made it through my grad school program in one piece! When I was in grad school to become a licensed counselor, I worked full time, attended classes, and completed an internship at the same time. I would often find myself taking a 15-minute break to decompress with some tangles. I lost my grandmother a few years ago (she is who taught me) and it was difficult for me to pick up for a time. Now that I have picked it back up, I don’t know how I ever put it down. I have noticed getting ready for this training, it helps me significantly to decompress after spending my day working with therapy clients.
My favorite story or memory about teaching the Zentangle Method is: My grandmother, Vicki Murray, became a CZT in 2010. When I had time between working and going to school, I would attend her trainings and help her with the experiences. One of the trainings she used to do were for military families being deployed. We split up into younger and older kiddos and I would work with the teenagers. I absolutely loved sharing this with families to help them cope with the difficulties of having a parent/spouse deployed.
Through my experiences as a CZT, I have learned: Though I have just started my journey as an official CZT, I know from helping my grandmother with her classes, that art has a profound impact on people. When they feel like they can create something beautiful and be proud of it, so much goodness can flow from that point. I am hoping to continue that.
If I’m not tangling, you will find me…: Helping my therapy clients improve their lives, curled up with a good book, or spending time with my husband, close friends, and family. My husband and I specifically love to curl up on the couch and watch a good movie. I have a group of friends that are therapists and we have a get together every month that we have started calling “therapy for therapists.”

Giving Tuesday is a national day devoted to charitable giving. We are asking for your help in growing the seed that Judy planted so that we can continue to support new certified teachers, organizations that see the benefits of sharing the method, and research to quantify what we experience when we tangle.
We know that there are many organizations deserving of your support at this time of year. As you consider your year-end giving, we hope you’ll remember the impact that the Zentangle Method has had on your life and consider making a donation in honor of Giving Tuesday. You can learn more about how to donate at zentanglefoundation.org.
Giving Tuesday 2024 is December 2, 2024.

Congratulations to Shauna. It is wonderful that the Zentangle Foundation is able to bring such a deserving tangler into the CZT orbit. It was also a good reminder to make my donation to the Foundation to continue this work.

This brought up such sweet memories! I attended the CZT 13 training in 2013. My son had just left for bootcamp with the Marine Corps a few weeks earlier and I was hoping his first letters would arrive before I left for the training. Alas, no. But then my husband called. They came just after I left. He sent me screen shots and I read them over and over while I was in Providence. Sweet providence!!!
