Zentangle Foundation: Community Outreach

Zentangle Foundation: Community Outreach

When the seed was planted for the Zentangle Foundation by a CZT, there were many discussions about what the foundation would do, who it would help and how. The possibilities were endless, but how could the foundation be the most effective?

One of the pillars of the Zentangle Foundation is community outreach. Over the years, the Zentangle Foundation has provided financial and material support to diverse populations including homeless, behavioral health and social workers, LGBTQIA+, veterans, and staff and students at educational institutions.

There are Certified Zentangle Teachers and Zentangle Enthusiasts all over the world who are sharing the Zentangle Method in their communities and with those who will benefit from it. It is the Zentangle Foundations honor and privilege to be able to support these groups and individuals.

Some of the groups and organizations that the Zentangle Foundation has supported include:

The Delaware Art Museum received Zentangle materials and provided Zentangle Kits to the Hispanic Festival, Suicide Prevention Association and Venezuelan refugees, predominantly mothers and their children, in Trinidad.

A summer upward bound program serving students from low income or first-generation families that want to pursue education beyond high school used the Zentangle Method to help develop habits that promote relaxation and well-being to counter the stressors of high school and college life. They received overwhelmingly positive feedback.

“In this class I experienced what it means to trust my creativity. To find peace in making mistakes rather than stressing over them. That’s what made me fall in love with this class. …..I especially loved when after we were done with our work we’d take a second to appreciate what we did.”

“The experience of Zentangle has gradually impacted my life & lifestyle. When I first came into the class, I had a different perspective/mindset than I do now. I thought that even when trying, that my dreams and goals were unattainable, out of reach. But then [the teacher] said something the very first day and it’s something I’ll probably remember for the rest of my life (I swear I’m not exaggerating anything, this really did happen in my brain). [She] said “anything’s possible one stroke at a time”. And every day since then I have kept that in the back of my mind, anything’s possible one stroke at a time. I would never have had the motivation to do the day to day things if I hadn’t heard that 6 weeks ago. Since then, I have become slightly more outgoing, more organized, and less stressed. All because I took baby steps, one step at a time, one stroke at a time. Because Zentangle showed me that I really can achieve something one stroke at a time.”

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Zentangle sessions. They have filled me with hope, support & creativity. This program has been an integral part of my healing journey. I always look forward to each session. I have formed friendships with the participants and leaders. I always feel encouraged, inspired, & filled with love.”

The Me-One Foundation is a non-profit foundation that holds a camp once a year for families where an adult in the family is in active cancer treatment. With the support of materials from the Zentangle Foundation, Certified Zentangle Teachers were able to share the Zentangle Method with 70 campers, ranging from age 5 to over 90. The Zentangle Foundation is pleased to have supported the Me-One Foundation for two years in a row.

Additional recipients of a Zentangle Foundation grant include:

Alternative Family Services of Oakland, California
Open Sky Community Service, Worcester, Massachusetts
Oak City Care, Raleigh, North Carolina
Air Force Wounded Warriors - Joint Base Andrews Annual National Care Event

Giving Tuesday is a national day devoted to charitable giving. We are asking for your help in growing the seed that Judy planted so that we can continue to support new certified teachers, organizations that see the benefits of sharing the method, and research to quantify what we experience when we tangle.

We know that there are many organizations deserving of your support at this time of year. As you consider your year-end giving, we hope you’ll remember the impact that the Zentangle Method has had on your life and consider making a donation in honor of Giving Tuesday. You can learn more about how to donate at zentanglefoundation.org.

Giving Tuesday 2024 is December 2, 2024.

  • I have always been grateful to include Charity as a part of the Zentangle world. It seemed that we were encouraged as CCT to do some what lawyers called pro bono work. So I have volunteered teaching at several places, including the senior center., Other people CCT in my town Are volunteering in the local jail. It is important and rewarding to teach Zentangle to these communities that otherwise would have no access. Thank you for the and the gift of Zentangle and the gift of Charity, which is a part of the gift of gratitude.
