For years, Maria dreamed of an event like this. The images and sounds of the emotional “We Are the World” concert from the 1980's echoed in her thoughts. She thought, what if our Z world came together to tangle at the same time, all over the world? What effects would it have on all of us as artists, creatives, heck, just people in general? So, that’s what Rick, Maria, Martha, and Molly decided to do. Gather with all of you... and tangle!
Now here we are again... on the eve of the 2026 International Day of Zentangle. We are so excited to feel your incredible, radiating energy for the third year in a row!

July 15th, 2024, was the inaugural International Day of Zentangle. Over 3,000 tanglers joined us from near and far, at all hours of the day and night, as Rick and Maria taught a new tangle to celebrate the occasion - idoz (the acronym for the International Day of Zentangle).
There was so much positive energy the first year that we knew this was a tradition we wanted to continue. On July 15th, 2025, we gathered once again, and Maria and Rick led the way. We tangled huggins together - the 2025 Tangle of the Year.

And each year, as we come together to tangle and celebrate, we ask that our community consider donating to the Zentangle Foundation. Since 2017, the Zentangle Foundation has funded scholarships, supported Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZTs), and supported research as it continued to grow. Born out of a generous donation by Judy, a CZT, The Zentangle Foundation shares the same passion for the Zentangle Method as Judy.
Each donation ensures a future where the Zentangle Foundation can support the world-wide art therapy community, build new partnerships with local and national non-profits, and continue supporting CZT’s on the ground.

IDOZ is very special to me! I consider it my Zentangle Anniversary.
Long story short… I discovered Zentangle in July of 2024, just from retirement from a 30 year corporate career in insurance. As I checked out the Zentangle website, I ran across IDOZ. Sooo amazing! I’ve never stopped since! And I am immeasurably grateful for this community. See you there!
