CZT Family Tree: Nina Dreher-Goeddertz

We always say that the Zentangle Method attracts really awesome people. We have had the pleasure of working with wonderful Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZT) all over the world and we are excited to share these wonderful people with the entire Zentangle Community. Through our series, CZT Family Tree, we will introduce individual CZTs.

Today, we are excited to introduce Nina Dreher-Goeddertz!

Name: Nina Dreher-Goeddertz

CZT#: EU4

Hometown: I was born in Wolfsburg, Germany (home of Volkswagen) and now live in the medieval city of Zons, nestled along the River Rhine.

Favorite tangle: mysticle

Favorite place to tangle: I love sitting at the dining table in my living room, gazing out into the garden. When the weather allows, I open the door to let in the soothing sounds of nature. Sometimes I play soft music in the background, and occasionally I diffuse essential oils to create a calming atmosphere. In the summer, I enjoy sitting outside in the yard, letting my pen drift across the paper as I'm carried by the ambiance and each gentle stroke. When traveling, I always look for beautiful spots where I can draw inspiration and create calming tangles.

How I use the Zentangle Method in my life: The Zentangle® Method is something very dear to me, a space where many of my passions and experiences come together. I've always loved pen, paper, and all things creative, and I incorporate creativity into every part of my life. Before becoming a Certified Zentangle Teacher, I spent 16 years working as a health, fitness, and meditation trainer. Those teaching experiences now enrich my life as a CZT and fuel my passion for sharing the Zentangle Method. The most precious part for me is being able to share this experience and knowledge with my participants, creating mindful, magical, and meaningful moments together.

My favorite story or memory about teaching the Zentangle Method:
One of my participants, who had never dared to shade her artwork, discovered the joy of shading through the Zentangle Method. Now, she can’t imagine creating without it. Moments like these bring me so much joy. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness my students not only finding happiness in the process, but also discovering their own inner light and growing in self-confidence. That is truly precious.

Through my experiences as a CZT, I have learned: That truly anything is possible—one stroke at a time.

If I’m not tangling, you’ll find me…: Spending time with my family, my dog, and my horse, enjoying nature, reading, knitting or crocheting, working in the garden, doing something creative, or catching up with friends.

  • Dear, dear Nina! How honored and humbled I am that you were one of our first over-seas members of the Pagosa Tanglers. This was back during the pandemic when I was teaching via Facebook Live right out of my laundry room! You continue to inspire us as your have gone on to be a world-wide Zentangle celebrity. Your true beauty lies in your kind and humble heart, always creating and sharing your talents! Bravo to you! You will always remain in my heart as a revered Zentangle genius!

  • Hello dear Nina! Love this post and thoroughly enjoyed our visit in Mystic. I’m also enjoying your mini tutorials very much. Keep up the good work.

  • Beautiful tangles and lovely narrative about the places you tangle! Your students are lucky to have you! When I first started tangling, I was also leery of shading. Now, when I look at some of my early work that I gave to friends and family, I’m tempted to grab a graphite pencil and get busy shading!

  • Ah yes -,Nina what lovely patterns! After 8 yrs of copying Zentangle patterns and dabbling in shading I became brave enough to take a graphite portrait class & created 11 portraits of family & friends over 18 weeks! Exhibiting in 3 gallery exhibits! With gratitude!
