The Legends of Zentangle - Reticula and Fragments
Over the past twenty years we have watched the Zentangle Method grow from a dream-like idea to a worldwide phenomenon that has touched countless lives. There are so many stories, thoughts, lessons, traditions and so on that we have collected along the way. One of our earliest traditions was the incorporation of a twenty-sided die and accompanying legend card. This was added to eliminate the roadblock of not knowing what to tangle next and to inspire challenges and ideas. For years this was a staple in our original kit. In 2020 we created Project Pack No.10 around this theme and last year we continued the story of the Zentangle Legend with The Legends of Zentangle Collection Box. This pack is the fourth installment of the series, The Legend of Reticula and Fragments.
The Zentangle Method is all about the art of drawing patterns. The world of patterns is vast and beautiful. Within this expansive world of patterns there are different categories of patterns and we study many of them to learn more about deconstructing and creating tangles and building compositions with them. One of the categories we study often is the category of Grid Tangles. These tangles traditionally are made of a grid like structure that then have smaller components that fit into the spaces created by the grid. Imagine patterns like floor tiles. This concept was exciting for Rick and Maria and made them think about the potential within it. And thus the Reticula and Fragments system was born.
Inside you will find a Reticula and Fragments tangle themed story and two reticula cards, and three fragment cards. We pair this bundle of legend cards with Bijou tiles as they are a great surface for exploring the patterns you can create with the Reticula and Fragments system. Enjoy digging into the history of how it came about and learn how to study and challenge your practice by using them.
