Tenth Day of Zentangle

"On the Tenth Day of Zentangle . . ."

On the tenth stroke of Zentangle
R and M envisioned,
Black Apprentice tiles

Teachers and students (and parents) loved our Zentangle Apprentice approach and the Zentangle Apprentice Classroom Pack with its white tiles. That inspired us to create a black Zentangle Apprentice tile.

We found the perfect surface for this new collection. In the fall of 2016, we introduced the black Zentangle Apprentice tile. It is now part of our black classroom pack for schools and the individual Zentangle Apprentice Kit (ZAK).

Enjoy!

  • I have never used (or thus taught!) on black apprentice tiles. This is great!!!

  • Another superb project! Really like the look of tangling Paradox on black with white ink and then using the triangles as reticula.

So excited to tangle tiles using this technique with its many possibilities.

Thank you for teaching and inspiring us!

  • I have always loved to draw a pattern large and then tangle in the sections, which I have called “using a tangle as a string.” I never thought of it as a reticulum. Thought provoking. Sometimes, as with paradox, the resulting reticulum is regular. Sometimes, as with using hollibough as a string or reticulum, it’s wonky, but clearly still a reticulum. Sometimes, like one I did with layered poke leaves, the resulting sections are totally irregular. And they can all be filled with the same fragment, as Martha did here so beautifully, or they can be used as a true string, with different tangles in different sections, sections combined or ignored. All very fascinating. Thanks for a wonderful exploration of the concept.

  • Yeah! Love the big tile right now! Enlarged paradox is an eager recipient. The white is so much fun!
    Tangle on!!!

  • Stunning & such a super demonstration of reticula & fragments – who’d have thought paradox could serve such a purpose & the use of the white charcoal as a highlight at the same time as the graphite has to be seen to be understood for you cannot get your head around it otherwise. Thank you so much for these tremendous teaching videos.

  • I love the sheen the tile gets when shading on both the black and white portions on this, with the graphite. Off to play, thanks.

  • I love doing this! <3

  • I love this design! It’s so versatile, and the shading does so much for the 3D illusion.

  • A paradoxical paradox! Fun!

  • It looks like a billowing ribbon to me. The end result to simple steps is very beautiful. Thank you for another great video !

  • Some of these projects have really stretched my ability…but I love them for that very reason. They are giving me confidence and a sense of Zentangle adventure. THANK YOU SO MUCH?
