2025 Journal Project

We received such wonderful feedback about the 2024 Journal Project that we decided to keep going this year. You can continue in your current journal or start a new one for the new year. Throughout the year, we will give you prompts and ideas to provoke thoughts, reflection and of course, tangling.

To start off the year, we are focusing on the 2025 Tangle of the Year!

What started as a fun way to acknowledge the new year, quickly turned into conversations and reflections about where we have been, where we are going and most importantly, where we are in the present moment. The Zentangle Tangle of the Year is one that represents not only the Zentangle Method, but our intentions for the year.

For 2025, the Tangle of the Year is a legend in its own right. It is strong and bold and stands on its own as originally drawn, but offers opportunity and encouragement for exploration, growth and creativity. Much like a string , this tangle creates a framework for our tile and our creative journey and we are excited to see how it weaves in and out of our year.

If this tangle is one that is already in your tool box, we invite you to lean on it throughout the year. If this tangle is new to you and you're feeling intimidated... fear not! It is all bark and no bite.

The Tangle of the Year 2025 is huggins!

Prompt #1:

Open to a new page in your journal and label it "2025." Fill the page with the tangle of the year. Settle into the rhythm of take off and land and then use shading, embellishments and other tangles to bring huggins to life.

Prompt #2:

February may be a short month but in the Zentangle community, it is bursting at the seams with love, passion and creativity. We love to incorporate hearts into our Zentangle art, so we encourage you to pick a tangle that has orbs as a component and instead of using an orb, use a heart. Think tipple, purk, nipa, and huggins.

Prompt #3:

In the Month of May, we recognize the importance of mental health and well-being. This is a time to nourish your soul with your pen - you deserve it.

For this entry, we invite you to dedicate one page in your journal to the Bijou Be Well series. Each day of the series, we will have a video guiding you through a monotangle on a square tile. After you have created your tile, use that same tangle and add it to your journal page. Maybe you choose a specific string or approach or limit yourself to specific materials. Maybe you pull out your gel pens, or a colored pencil to shade or maybe you stick to the basics - all is welcome here. And while you tangle, we encourage you to think about that day's Bijouism and what it might mean to you.

Challenge yourself to show up for a few moments of dedicated tangle time for 21 consecutive days, and at the same time allow yourself room if your expectations have to change. Know you are doing the best you can with the time and ability you have in this moment. It is probably more than you think.
