Welcome to the Zentangle Project Pack No. 19 and the second day of the 12 Days of Zentangle!
It has become an annual Zentangle tradition for us to celebrate the holiday season with a series we call The Twelve Days of Zentangle. For twelve consecutive days, we deliver daily tangling lessons, guiding you through the steps to create festive tangled works of art that are all part of the same theme.
Join us as our old friend Alfie and a couple of new friends take us through The 2022 Twelve Days of Zentangle.
With brush in hand, Nomi gets ready to follow along with Molly. Marasu and Alfie are just observing and appreciating all things Zentangle, while Nomi puts down some color on his grand Zentangle scroll.
“What an interest ing way to start a piece of Zentangle art. I love watching Molly (and Nomi!) wield their paint brushes, like magic wands, bringing this project to life.”
“I want to be an artist when I grow up” says Alfie. “How cool would that be?”
Marasu says “You are an artist, silly. I’ve seen your Zentangle tiles and they are amaZing!” Nomi is not listening to this banter between Marasu and Nomi. He is totally engrossed in the moment, with Molly gently guiding him through this new (for him) process.
“This is so much fun,” he says, almost to himself. “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s video.”
Alfie chimes in “Well, I have to run home and get mine started. Let’s meet here tomorrow and see what each of us learned from Molly’s lesson”.

This Zentangle series is unique as we will be working on one singular piece of tangled art over the course of twelve lessons. The customized surface will provide structure and a common element to guide us on this adventure together. We will methodically and magically add to the structure as we simultaneously discuss and share our system of collecting, deconstructing, and categorizing tangles. As we take you on an adventure, we will introduce you to our Zentomology™ approach. We will explore Tangle Genuses, or categories of tangles. In true Zentangle fashion, our approach to this system is playful and open to exploration and interpretation. We use the Zentomology system as way to learn about the characteristics of tangles and explore how to use them in ways that enhance and balance our tangled compositions. As we dig into this concept, we leave a trail of tangled artwork behind us. Join us as we get tangled up in the Zentomology approach of studying tangles while creating one large piece of tangled art.
Each day, as we add to this singular piece of tangled art, we remind you to trust the process. Watch as this composition comes together with different tangles, concepts and your individual style. At the end we will bring all of the elements of the Zentangle Method together in a beautiful and unique piece of artwork.
Tangle along with Molly as she guides you through the second video in this series. We recommend doing these videos in order, beginning with day 01. You can view all previous Project Pack No. 19 videos here.
Please share your creations on the Zentangle Mosaic App using the hashtag #PP19Day02 and #12DaysofZentangle2022.
Let us know your thoughts below and at the end of this series, we will pick a commenter at random from each day to receive a Zentangle surprise!
Seeing the way pokeroot & pokeleaf turn themselves into a poketree is quite something – so many variations can spring from this idea. Now that the project is starting to take shape Kim reminded of the whole semicircle with the tree trunk resembling a peacock’s tail – just tweak it to give a pair of feet instead of a tree trunk!

Rixty as a pretty straight “vine” will be fun to use!

I like the colors. I hope to be able to try this out soon, if I find the time. But the Christmas vacation is coming up…

I LOVE this project already! I am still on Day 1, having a wonderful time as an Artist in Residence (working on the kitchen table, ha ha). I spent many hours today working on the watercolour which I may have made more complicated than necessary, but had fun! Thank you ZHQ!

I love this concept of delayed gratification in a society that tends to run ahead without savoring. Thanks for the exercise. You always deliver new creative ways!

I love the way this is evolving so far, especially starting with basic tangles that I love to do!

I love that you have started off with such classic tangles and it is already looking like a tree! Magical!

I loved seeing everyone’s pieces at the end of the video! Each is so unique using the same tangles :)
