My Favorite Tangles

My Favorite Tangles

Molly writes...

I was recently thinking about my favorite tangles. Not my “mac and cheese” tangles or the tangles I find myself drawing the most, but my all around favorite tangles. Favorite tangles for me are the ones that I always love when I see them in tiles. These tangles could be attractive to you because they are challenging to draw or maybe they lure us in because of their simplicity. Perhaps there are tangles we love because they evoke an emotion. Whatever the reason is there are definitely tangles that each of us connect to more than others and what is great is that we all connect to different ones.

I have a long list of my favorite tangles but top on my list has always been jonqal. Every time I see it I just love it. I find it both so basic yet I love how it can offer complexity. I find its contrast to be classy and eye-catching. I use it often so I know that it can be time consuming to create. I find the time investment worth its result. I love to shade jonqal and play with the illusions. If tangles were friends …Jonqal is that friend that lights up the room, gets along with everyone and brings out the best in others.

When I was thinking about favorite tangles I somehow got side tracked and found myself thinking about favorite things … and this happened:

Sing the below lyrics to the tune of “My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music. And yes you should sing it out loud.

Dewdrops on pokeleafs
And tipples on florz
Bright copper mookas and warm woolen rixties
Tan paper tiles all tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cream-colored tiles and black inky splatzes
Primtemps and way-bops
And keeko with quandry
Festunes that fly with some flukes on drawings
These are a few of my favorite things

Meer in white pendrills with black satin static
Jetties that stay on my braze and noom repus
Silver-white bunzos that melt into sprinkle
These are a few of my favorite things

When the pen leaks
When I’m stressed out
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember there are no mistakes

And then I don't feel so bad

(Thanks to Indy and Mazzy for helping me with the lyrics)

  • Ooooh this is so sweet! Thank you, Molly! I did sing along and it cracked me up!
Even though I am not familiar with all the tangles in the lyrics,
it appeared to be all the more mysteriously musically beautiful! :)

  • Love this post and sung the song in my head, but I assure you only because I have laryngitis! Great lyrics from you and the girls

  • Thank you for the fun blog! I, too, sang it out loud. I am sure my husband was glad to be out of ear shot, though! I am much better at tangling than singing but love both… Have a wonderful day!

  • Delightful lyrics! And yes, I realized there IS a difference between ‘go-to’ tangles that we love doing, and tangles that we like looking at.
